Harvest Fest
Time to think about the Harvest Fest already!! Wow-time does fly!! Hope everyone's summer has been as pleasant as ours. The weather has been a sweet change although it has slowed everything in my garden a bit. Well, maybe that was the hail that set it back but it has returned quite nicely. We are looking forward to another fun year with all our friends and family. Looking forward to making new friends as well so load up and bring someone along that has not had the opportunity to spend a day in the country with us!
What to expect in 2009
The Kammerer's 6th Annual Rush Lake Harvest Fest & Open Poultry Show is set for Saturday, September 19, 10:00-4:00pm. Located 10 Miles North of Wall.
The Open Poultry Show has been a big hit so we think why break tradition? Of course, there must be food so I better talk to the cook and see what's cookin'. In the past the hamburgers, corn on the cob, ribs, etc. have been great. And I have not forgotten Peggy's well received breakfast rolls and coffee. I really hope the pumpkin patch starts showing some orange by then. I'm sure if July's patch does not have plenty, David's will pull through and Jean everyone loved the Heirloom tomatoes last year. There has been kid fun in the past such as digging for treasures in the sand, beanbag toss for gold fish prizes, and thanks to Joel our lawn mower got real tired pulling the train. What next? Maybe some pumpkin and face painting (that was cool Lori-we're praying for you) and what better then to have a photographer on the premises to capture the moment. I'm thinking Open Goat Show, and an Open stage for talent (demo's, talks, music, magic, poems, etc.) We are also looking for a group or groups to tend the Petting Zoo. We have the animals but lacking man power.

M & J Leatherworks
Mitch and Jed like their winter time to get into the leather room, both for fun and for profit.
Calfshow & Rodeoing
The kids activities include showing our own raised calves at the WJLS, 4-H and High school Rodeoing and much more.
Our Feathered Friends
Part of our pest patrol include Domestic Peking Ducks, Muscovy Ducks, and Chickens. Many wild fowl join them each spring particularly the Greater Canadian Geese. They flock back to Rush Lake each year and entertain us with there mating rituals. My father helped bring them back to this area in the 60's. We live in what was called the goose pasture.
Goats Goats Goats
Wow new to blogging and it shows. We stay very busy at Rush Lake year round raising kid goats and much more. Our nanny goats not only raise there kids but also bum calves and this year we tried orphaned lambs. Plans for the future are to train some goats to pack and possibly to pull wagons or other such things. Our goats not only are milk goats but also meat goats. To thin the herd in the summer some are farmed out to goat tyers for practice purposes and retrieved in the fall to sell. July is 12 and enjoys helping out with all goat projects except trying to keep them contained. No one enjoys this.
